Arnaud Bertrand on the killing of civilians in response to the October 7 Hamas attack

I don't know about God but history certainly won't forgive this.

It isn't hard to understand: you can perfectly condemn the violence against Israeli civilians (and, again I do, I find it absolutely disgusting) but at the same time say this doesn't give the right, moral or legal, to kill innocent civilians in turn.  In fact you MUST say this, it's the only morally correct position.  Half the inhabitants in Gaza are children, for God's sake.

The absence of any public opposition to this by Western governments means morality, human rights, basic humanity has completely collapsed in the West, everything they claim "their values" stand for.

In fact if Israel proceeds with this and if the wider West doesn't condemn it, this will undoubtedly prove catastrophically consequential for both Israel and the West.  Much like the war on terror and the collective punishment of the people of Afghanistan and Iraq was catastrophically consequential for the US, with repercussions that will be felt for decades to come.  It will widen the already widening divide between the West and the rest, destroy Western credibility more than it already was, destroy any hope for Israel to reconciliate with its neighbors (let alone Palestinians) for decades to come, which will obviously be a serious blow to its long-term security.  So even from an Israeli security perspective it makes little sense.  Which by the way was probably the whole point behind the Hamas attacks in the first place...  This is all so stupid.
