Doug Casey on international law

Here’s an analogy. Look at the world of international law as a sleazy nightclub with 200 customers. Some are going to be raucous, some will be quiet; some are friendly, some are aggressive; some smart, some stupid.

There will always be a few gangbangers who don’t like each other, some townies who hate the preppies, some junkies, a couple of ex-cons, and a few psychos. And there’s no cop to keep order. The world is just like that bar. No written rules, just some vague understandings. And lots of misunderstandings. Like in any bar, customers size each other up, deciding who to drink with, who’s looking for trouble, or, if you’re a bad actor, who you can beat up and roll.

The US used to be the toughest customer in the saloon of international law, buying friends with free drinks. But he’s turned into a mean drunk who’s overdrawn his tab. The other customers who used to tolerate his eccentricities have started to dislike, disrespect, and resent him. It will probably end up like an altercation in Deadwood’s Gem Saloon.

Kevin Duffy on Trump's ambitions to annex Greenland

Here's a novel idea: stop making enemies. Stop expanding NATO on Russia's doorstep. Stop vilifying China for being economically successful. Stop bullying everyone with tariffs. Stop economic sanctions and embargoes on countries you don't like, e.g. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela. Stop aiding and abetting the genocide in Gaza.

Why not try this approach? I guarantee, the world would be a more prosperous, peaceful place. The big loser in such a world, of course, would be the military industrial complex, whose budget would be easily cut to under $500B (which is precisely why they are fighting so desperately to prevent such a cataclysm).

No, instead we're going to double down on our current path. These people are now pining for a $1.5T annual military budget!! Meanwhile, total debt clocks in at $39T and counting, our growing list of enemies is selling US treasuries, and the dollar is imploding vs. gold (having lost 75% of its value since Trump first stepped into office in January, 2017).

As WWI critic Randolph Bourne famously said, "War is the health of the state." But ultimately, the war machine brings about a destruction of the currency and bankruptcy of the state. We are now accelerating towards that day.

Tucker Carlson on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East since 1953

Tucker Carlson: This is like a wasteland of deception and shifting alliances and broken promises and shattered dreams.  Everything that you've said for the past two whatever hours, it's been, is so depressing and also confusing, but more than anything, utterly divorced from America's national interests.

Scott Horton: That's right.

Carlson: None of this has anything to do with what's happening in New York City, or Eugene, Oregon, or anywhere.  And I just wonder, do you - since you work on this full time - do you imagine a time in our lifetimes where the attention of the U.S. government is drawn back to the United States?  Some attempt is made to improve life here?

Horton: Over their dead bodies.  I mean figuratively speaking.
