Dennis Gartman: Stocks melting up, think like a 4-year old

We are in fact melting up.  We just continue to make new highs and the odds are we will continue to make new highs...  It's still a bull market...  Sometimes thinking like a 4-year old, looking to see what the general trend is, is the best way of trading, the best way of investing.  Sometimes we make it just far too complicated and get in our own way.

Dennis Gartman buys the dip

This is not a weak economy, it's a pleasantly strong economy.  This is a nicely strengthening economy.  This is a very well demeanored economy.  It's not an excited one.  It's one that's doing quietly better...  Let's all be calm and not be panicked at this point.  I turned from being quite bullish of stocks to being neutral early last week and I have to tell you, I never thought we'd see the market fall several hundred Dow points in the course of three or four days.  I got very lucky, and I'm going to turn back to being bullish again.

Dennis Gartman: Pay no attention to Faber's crash predictions

Listening to Marc Faber call for a 20 or 30 percent crash makes absolutely no sense, but he's been predicting it for years.

Dennis Gartman on the commodity boom

This one is different. This is sustainable. We’re coming out of global recession, and we’re going into global strength.

Dennis Gartman on the time horizons of hedge fund managers

You're a hedge fund manager. I'm a hedge fund manager. We live in a world where if we can get through to next Tuesday, that's important and that's as far forward as I can look.

Dennis Gartman on the Fed's surprise rate cut

I actually applaud them… This was not a shot of adrenaline to the economy. This was more a shot of penicillin to an otherwise disconcerted economy.

Dennis Gartman: Higher taxes will put pressure on stock prices

Be careful. Taxes are going to go up. And every time taxes rise, stock prices falter. They're going to raise income taxes and they're going to raise taxes on capital gains. They've told us that. I'm sorry, if you do that, share prices are going to come under pressure.

Dennis Gartman on the dollar

Everybody, everywhere is short the dollar in any sort of manifestation they can get their hands on... In 35 years of watching markets, I cannot recall a single trade that has been this one-sided. And when the public gets that one-sided, it usually ends in tears.

Dennis Gartman: Fed should drive funds rate under 3%

I think the Fed has to continue to cut the short end of the yield curve. Anybody who thinks that the Fed is done hasn't taken a drive down through Miami, hasn't gone out to Nevada to see what's going on in the housing industry there, hasn't driven to Cleveland to see what's going on in the housing industry there. That problem's going to get worse and the Fed has to continue to make certain that the short end of the curve stays low. They're going to drive the funds rate well under 3% before this is done, and if they don't, that will be a mistake.

Dennis Gartman on ethanol

Ethanol is the dumbest idea we have ever come up with. We're taking viable, important land that we can be planting food upon, and we're taking it to create a fuel that is utterly inefficient. A gallon of ethanol gives you about 85% of the horsepower of a gallon of gasoline, and yet it costs you energy to produce it. If it were not for the senators and congressmen of Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska - there would be no ethanol production. It's just an utterly idiotic program that I hope we do away with.
